I can think of so many more interesting and engaging ways to get people to interact with it, but all the booklet said was basically, "Copyleft: Here is a photocopier. But there was very little context and I didn't think it was possible to be both underwhelming and overwhelming, but there you go.
The most interesting thing was in the downstairs area, where early Dada films were being shown on a TV. So we gave up on the these very expensive booklets and just tried to enjoy what we were seeing. We couldn't find any way to connect what we were reading to what we were seeing. Ok, we thought this had better be one fabulous booklet! Well, it turned out to be completely hard to understand (and NOT in the bizarre, Dada way), just really badly designed for learning anything.Įach blurb in the booklet was supposed to correspond to a wall poster or other feature in the rooms we explored. But she wouldn't let us only buy one booklet, insisting that we buy two (30CHF!) because it's clear that we were both going to use it. We thought, sure, we'll buy a booklet to support them, and hopefully we'll learn something. When we did, the attendant asked if we wanted to do a self-guided tour (15CHF for a guide book), or just wander around.
(although if you opt out of the self-guided tour, it will simply be lost time instead of both time & money)įirst, the location was quite hard to find, and the hours listed on the web (Google results) were incorrect. It ended up being an expensive disappointment. I was excited to visit the birthplace of the Dada movement and expected to come away with a better understanding of its origins and influences on society.
